Abbey

Abbey, or Abby can have two meanings. In the Old Testament Abigail was the third wife of King David and was the epitome of both beauty and discretion, meanings that were later applied to the name itself. Also in middle English, the term Abby was used to describe a lay person who performed priestly services, and was generally taken by the leading person in that village.
