Amrita is a feminine form of Amrit. Amrit originates in Sanskrit and means "undead". In Hinduism, this is the name of a drink that gives people eternal life. This is also the name of an ancient Phoenician city near Tartus in Syria. As a masculine given name it is mainly used in India, in the US it is very rare.
