Argus

Argus is a variant of Argos. Argos was a mythical creature in ancient Greek literature that had 100 eyes. When it was killed, the eyes were supposed to have been put into the tail feathers of a peacock, which is why they look like so many eyes. The meaning of the name in Greek is 'alert or vigilant'.
