Bruno originates in Germanic languages and means "brown skinned". As a masculine given name, Bruno is currently more popular in Europe and Brazil. In the United States its popularity has been declining since the beginning of the 20th century. Originally derived from the Germanic element ‘brun’, which means ‘brown’, Bruno was the name of a famous 11th century German saint – Saint Bruno of Cologne.
