Cody is an Irish name, derived from the old Gaelic name O'Cuidighthigh, which means 'the male descendent of the helpful one'. The 'O', which meant “a male descendent”, was first dropped, and the rest of the name was anglicized to a number of names like Cuddy, Cudigy, Cody etc.
