Dixie

Dixie originates in French language and means "the tenth child". It is taken from the nickname for the Southern United States. There are several theories of where the expression came from, most likely it is derived from the currency issued by the banks of Louisiana. These were 10-dollar bills, with the French word dix (meaning 'ten') on them and people called them simply 'dixies'. Later on, it became a popular feminine given name.
