Eugenia originates in Greek language and means "woman well-born". It is a feminine form of Eugene. It is also the name of a genus of flowering plants from the myrtle family. In English-speaking countries it has been used since the 19th century. The form Eugene can also be used as a feminine given name but remains more popular for boys.
