Hattie is a diminutive of Harriet. Harriet is a variant of Henrietta. Henrietta originates in Germanic languages and means "ruler of the house". It is a feminine form of Henry. Henrietta has been a popular name within royalty over centuries but lately its usage, especially in the United States, has declined.
