Hyacinth originates in Greek language and is taken from the name of a popular garden flowering plant. It is a feminine form of Hyacinthe or Hyacinthus. In Greek mythology, Hyacinthus was a divine hero, a beautiful boy and a lover of Apollo, the god of the sun. As a feminine given name Hyacinth is rather rare in the United States.
