Lavinia most likely originates in Latin language and the meaning is unclear. In Roman mythology, Lavinia was the daughter of king Latinus and the wife of Aeneas, a Trojan hero. The name also appears in Dante's Divine Comedy. As a feminine given name it is very rare in the United States.
