Lida is a Czech diminutive of Ludmila. Ludmila originates in Slavic languages and means "one who loves people". This is the name of a 10th century Bohemian princess and saint, the grandmother of Saint Wenceslaus. Until today, Ludmila remains a popular feminine given name in Slavic languages. In the United States it is very rare.
