Luca is a German, Italian and Romanian variant of Luke. Luke originates in Greek language and means "from Lucania". It is ultimately derived from the name Loukas and Lucania is a region in Italy. As a masculine given name, Luke has been popular over centuries and in different spellings all over the wold. This was the name of the author of the Gospel of Luke. More recently, it was popularized by the fictional character of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars series.
