There are several possible explanations of the origin of this name. It can be derived from the Old Welsh morcant, which most likely means "traveling the sea". In Wales, Morgan is traditionally a male name, in the United States it is more commonly used for girls. Morgan is the name of a sorceress in one of the Arthurian legends. She is the stepsister of King Arthur and mother of Gawain and Modred.
