Nirvana originates in Sanskrit and literally means "one who blows out". It is the main concept in Indian religions, mainly in Buddhism, where Nirvana is defined as a perfect peace of mind. The name was undoubtedly popularized by the American rock band formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in 1987.
