Nola

There are several possible explanations of the origin of this name. Some sources suggest it is a feminine form of Nolan, others say it is a diminutive of Finola. Most likely, it is a short form of Magnolia. Magnolia was originally the name of a flower plant, which was named after the French botanist Pierre Magnol. It is the official state flower of Mississippi, also nicknamed Magnolia State.
