Orton is a variant of Horton. Horton is an English name, derived from the Latin word 'hortiss', which means 'garden'. It can also be derived from the Anglo-Saxon words 'ort', which means 'plant', and 'tun', which means 'enclosure'. Both meanings are roughly the same - 'muddy farm'.
